In commemoration of the presentation of this new website and this new and excellent wine called 11,250, they have tried to present an artistic product and to do so it has been chosen one of the works by Josep Puigmartí , the artist who resides in Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges.

The label of 11,250 is a reproduction of a work entitled "Doble Perfil" (Dual Profile), corresponding to his stage of "Faces and Profiles" from the 60's of the prolific Catalan genius. In it, Puigmartí graphically aims to demystify the complexity of human beings. One of the profiles represents the reason, the control and mastery of feelings. The other, the visceral, intimate and full of longing unconsciously, weaknesses and secrets.

Recently took place at the Espace d'Art Contemporain Puigmarti a nice cultural encounter. The school children of La Cabanasse and Saint-Pierre-dels-Forcats came to meet Josep Puigmarti. Always loyal to himself, the artist captured the attention of young students. The day took the form of treasure hunting in the building. But the treasure was a bit special because the children had the mission of searching the paintings by the artist! In small groups they wandered up and down, from right to left with an exceptional motivation under the amused eye of their teachers. A lot of questions waiting for the artist, because the children wanted to know everything about this amazing character. And the cherry on the cake, Josep Puigmarti gave each one of them a drawing, just to thank them for their hospitality.

The artist Josep Puigmartí who has been creating and living in the Hotel Estela Barcelona from Sitges for 17 years, might have next to this four-star hotel a foundation with a permanent exhibition space. In the center, which would add to the space contemporary art available in the Guingueta d'Ix (Bourg-Madame), will exhibit and disseminate the work of all stages of this eccentric and prolific creator at his 78. The owners of this company known as the Art Hotel, the engineers Antonio Almazor and Francesc Castellví, plan to create the interpretive center of Puigmartí investing around 6 million euros. The initiative is intended to integrate into the local macro-project, with which Sitges projected in the previous municipal stage to become an international reference in the economics of creativity in art. The former mayor of Sitges, Jordi Baijet, says that Hotel Estela Barcelona is one of the Cau Ferrat from the XXIst century, just like the example of the house-museum of modernist Santiago Rusiñol. The former mayor believes that, in Sitges, the work of Puigmartí has gained density and maturity, placing his work among the most interesting components of the generation in the sixties, that decanted Catalan painting into modernity.

Baijet sees Puigmartí as a genius. For these reasons, the former mayor pledged to convince both the Spanish Government and the Sitges Government of the goodness of a project whose main drawback soil is placed in maritime-terrestrial public domain. The space of 4,000 m2 over two floors, claims to be under the current garden area of the hotel. The project is outlined and is expected to start work within a year.

Puigmartí says that he's been working for years on the project and feels fortunate that not many artists can reach this level.

Puigmartí that each day he wakes up at four in the morning to start painting without preconceptions, has converted the Estela Barcelona in his headquarters. These days looking at multiverse paints, the pearls that created the Big Bang, among which he includes humans. In his paintings there are, also, aliens. He says he lives by discovering and not wasting time copying things better than can be painted.

He defines himself as an emotional creator who does not want to think. The halls and walls of the hotel are full of his pictures, sharing the limelight with some 300 pieces by Subirachs, with a Dali sculpture, with works by Antoni Tapies or Modest Urgell or an impressive Meifren valued at €480,000.

No corner without sculptures and canvas. Even 16 of the 64 rooms have been decorated since 1993 by artists such as Antoni Xaus, Joan Iriarte, Ramon Moscardo, Grau Garriga, Subirachs or Puigmartí himself. The hotel clients and collectors can buy works. This has been a successful diversification for a hotel that closed last year with a turnover of 2.5 million euros and he saw the crisis as happened in the convention received fifty in 2009 to only four in 2010.

Of course, they deny that Estela Barcelona is an art gallery, a business that they consider to be from the nineteenth century.

Puigmartí creates his works in the same hotel or in a space of 400 meters in front of the beach of the Aiguadolç Marina, which also is owned by Estela Barcelona, sleeping on the floor next to his paintings. The owners of the hotel ensure that he can have at his disposal, in addition to their meals, the fifty employees of the company. He has 50 drivers and, if necessary, even is accompanied to the doctor, says Francesc Castellví. The hotel's owners acknowledge, in fact, that Puigmartí has an open bar and lives in the Estela Barcelona like a king. They say, however, that art is our added value, we are unique in the world. They add that the Catalan art is really appreciated outside our borders. Josep Puigmartí notes that the important thing is not where you sleep but to sleep well, and that the only difference of living in a hotel is to have the kitchen at your disposal.

An unusual character in the Catalan plastic

Josep Puigmartí was born in Monistrol de Calders in 1932. Already at the age of 11 he held his first exhibition and since then devoted his life entirely to painting and art.

He uses and experiments with all kinds of materials. As stated in his own blog, "his great career recognized around the world, one could say that consists of several steps related to their circumstances: his great loves in different countries, who marked his work, either by a passion or by the destruction these loves caused". He has exhibited in Spain, the USA, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, France, Britain, China, Italy, Switzerland, Monaco, Shanghai ...

Josep Puigmartí, transgressive artist like few others, is a personality a bit unusual in the Catalan plastic of the second half of the twentieth century. In 1956 Puigmartí performed a work that was decanted into a schematic expressionism, giving much value to the background areas and with such thorough job figures that reminds the materic Austrian modernist painting.

In the 60's, driven by easy money and frivolous fun environments, he worked as an advertising model. He goes frequently to the parties organized by Salvador Dali and is carried away by the curiosity of the moment.

He makes his second exhibition in Barcelona and develops a work outside conceptualisms, without seeking symbols, messages and literary developments.

In 1972 Puigmartí is based in Paris and a few months later he presented his first personal exhibition "hymn to woman". Puigmartí until 1989 devoted himself to painting women.

Another tendence affecting the global art was Pop Art, especially the influence of American artists like Warhol and Tom Wesselman. In the late 60's, such acceptance had his lithographs in Japan that led him to make several trips to Tokyo where he worked tirelessly on new original models. His contact with the Silver Cloud Galleries from Pacific Beach, California, led him to move to the U.S.. This year was 1984, and resided in this country until 1989. Asia, Europe, United States ...and then back home next to the Mediterranean.

It is in the Hotel Estela Barcelona from Sitges where Puigmarti had in the 90's the most important change in his life. He gives up his wandering life and it is in the upper loft of the hotel where his studio is initially installed in 1995. The formal change takes shape in two facts: those cold and perfect lined dummies-women disappear and the line acquires the radical leadership that never had in Puigmarti's works.

The human eye had always been his great landscape. The philosophy of the eye, part memory, part observation, is his constant practice. To watch and being watched: this has been his obsession. In the 90's he developed the three-dimensional creations, sculptures or objects, called "things" by the artist. These things follow the Dadaist tradition, as well as the tradition of pop art in which objects are constructed from other objects, changing their meaning. Performs automatic acts in the selection of the items found. Now the fact that seduces him is to be devoted to his works and to be dedicated to a feverish creative activity.

AN EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL WITH ART BY PUIGMARTI - From Sitges to your table

This idea came out from a conversation among multiple altruistic professionals who have something in common, a passion for art.

Masia Can Pi from Sant Pere de Ribes (Barcelona) organized a meeting between Riudecanyes Cooperative, Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges and Mr. Ripley. That brainstorm gave the idea of creating an extra virgin olive oil personalized by the artist Josep Puigmarti to achieve a piece of art that was closest to the people and of course what better way to serve it that on the table.

So, it has been presented as the Extra Virgin Olive Oil (AOVE) Puigmartí. With a great design package (250ml) with wax seal and label lithographed by Josep Puigmartí, the artist who lives and works in that the Art Hotel in Sitges.

During the event, the genius created a great artwork in front of everyone present, inspired by the mixture of PAINTING OIL + OLIVE OIL.

The ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the foundation, was held at the Cultural Center building Library Can Fabra, where Trinijove Private Foundation, held a few days ago the 25 th anniversary of its creation. The event was a success because of the large public attendance and the attendees category, among whom was Joseph Puigmartí , the Honourable President of the Generalitat of Catalonia Mr. Artur Mas and former president Mr. Jordi Pujol. In addition to those named, attended, among others, the president of the Foundation, Maria Estrany, the Minister of Social Welfare and Family, Josep Lluís Cleries, the territorial delegate of the Government of Catalonia in Barcelona, Salvador Jorba, Councilman Sant Andreu District of the City of Barcelona, Raimond Blasi, and the director general of the Caixa Foundation, Jaume Lanaspa.

Recall that Josep Puigmartí and the Hotel Estela Barcelona-Art Hotel in Sitges have supported many events organized by Trinijove in the form of several exhibitions of sculpture and painting as a means of social and cultural awareness of the general public through art.

Currently the visible heads are Iñaki Segurado (Vice President) and Ignasi Parody (Secretary General), responsible for the actions of the foundation.

HISTORY OF FOUNDATION TRINIJOVE

Twenty-five years ago a group of young people from Trinitat Vella, following the economic crisis and the high rate of youth unemployment in the district, launched an initiative called Trinijove. The objectives were and are to promote social and occupational integration of people in risk, mainly young people of the territory and implement community development strategies in the neighborhood of Trinitat Vella and Baró de Viver.

So far, about 6,000 people have participated in training courses offered by this institution and 60% have achieved reenter the working market.

In the field of labour intermediation Trinijove Foundation collaborates with the Obra Social of La Caixa, in coordinating the program INCORPORA in the province of Barcelona.

The foundation will continue looking for companies willing to collaborate and provide jobs to people in situations of exclusion. Also continue to support entrepreneurs, who facilitate the design of business plans and access to microcredit, developing community revitalization activities.

From these lines we congratulate the Foundation and all who have been involved in its commendable work over the years.

Josep Grau-Garriga spent his last holidays, a couple of weeks last August, with his wife Anne and two daughters at the hotel in Sitges where he spent his summer vacation these recent years.

Reial Cercle Artístic, 130 YEARS– Colombia 2011
The Reial Cercle Artistic offers a selection of 17 artists to commemorate the celebration of 130 anniversary of its founding, with the great particularity that it is the first exhibition on Colombian grounds in which the entity participates and collaborates.

The Artistic Circle was founded in Barcelona in 1881, seven years before of what would be the first major showcase of modern Barcelona to the world: the celebration of the Universal Exhibition of 1888. Those were boom times of great cultural and intense preparation for this magnanimous event. Already entered in the twentieth century, specifically in 1916, in one of his visits to Barcelona, King Alfonso XIII granted the title of Royal to the Artistic Circle.

From its beginnings to our dates, the main objective of this historic institution has been the promotion of the Fine Arts.

Today the organization is presented with a commendable stability and a firm plan for the future in prevailing its roots to promote, encourage and support events and activities related to the world of art and culture in all its disciplines, in addition to spread it internationally.

This time there will be 17 outstanding contemporary artists chosen to decorate the rooms of the Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art: Josep Puigmartí, Jordi Andreu Fresquet, Emilia Castaneda, Cruañas Josep Benet Sarsanedas, Rafael Griera, Domingo Benito and Jordi Rollán as illustrious representatives Merit partners of the institution. After passing through various public spaces of Madrid and Barcelona (Aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat, among others), the exhibition "SOLO THINGS - Cultural and Social Responsibility" with paintings and sculptures by Josep Puigmartí, now moves to the Forum of Cultures in Barcelona. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday October 6th at 12:00 am on the grounds of the Diagonal Mar Shopping Center ( see location map )

The huge impact his work is having and the fact that through them the public feel more sensitive to the environment, has enabled this original idea which has turned into a traveling exhibition that never ceases to amaze wherever it is exhibited.

This is, undoubtedly, a source of pride for the artist and for those who work with him at Studio Puigmartí and at his homeplace in Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges.

This exhibition will provide a framework for the presentation of the Barcelona Forum District, the new business area, social activities and cultural events, formed by a group of companies, friendly with the environment, socially responsible and culturally very active. Companies interested in moving this emerging citizen space as the core generator of large-scale business, social and cultural rights. This will be done by creating a space/brand in Barcelona fully identified with companies, institutions and citizens' associations located around the Forum, taking into account values/concepts of social responsibility, cultural and environmental issues, and that both generate a flow of customers, visitors and participants tailored to each business sector of this area. A NEW ART SQUARE BY PUIGMARTI IN BOURG-MADAME, FRANCE - August 2011

Josep Puigmarti , the artistic genius of Hotel Estela Barcelona-Art Hotel in Sitges, continues to develop many of his creations between Sitges and Bourg-Madame, where He has his own Center for Contemporary Art.

So great are his links with the city of French Cerdagne and with the City Council to bring Art to all its inhabitants, that artistic events never stop.

On this occasion, Puigmartí has created several sculptures and large-format paintings that are destined to occupy the public space of the new Square of the Artists, about to be inaugurated on August 16th.

His performance of contemporary art in the square leaves no one indifferent, creating an extremely harmonious whole, based on recycled tires, coloured with great artistic criteria, and finished with dummies containing respectful eroticism. This, somehow, puts Bourg Madame at the forefront, as it undoubtedly once was.

Josep Puigmarti collaborate in the exhibition " Responsability Social, Cultural and Environment" at the airpot El Prat

Barcelona Airport-El Prat opened the exhibition entitled "Social, Cultural and Environmental Responsibility" in collaboration with Fundació Trinijove, the Waste Agency of Catalunya and Fundació La Caixa. The show aims to expose the environmental commitment of the airport and is composed of panels about Corporate Social Responsibility, the Premis of pel Diseny Reciclatge 2009 from the Catalan Agency of Waste, panels explaining the functional goals of the Foundation Trinijove and sculptures representing Artist recycled material Josep Puigmartí.

From our position in Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges, where we live and share many hours of artistic creativity with Puigmartí, we sympathize with the aim of this exhibition, but what gives us most satisfaction is the fact that our genius particular Puigmartí, is so committed to this cause and that Art is used for teaching and social awareness to this end.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Fernando Echegaray, director of the Barcelona Airport, Jaume Lanaspa, director of the Fundació La Caixa, Iñaki Segurado, vice president of the Foundation Trinijove, and Josep M ª Tost, director of the Waste Agency of Catalonia. The exhibition will remain open until Aug. 8 in Module 5 of the terminal T2.

Art Hotel and Studio Puigmartí have helped make this exhibition possible.

BARCELONA AIRPORT: EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES by PUIGMARTI

Barcelona Airport continues to grow in order to adapt its facilities and logistics infrastructure to the new reality of s.XXI^th. In recent years major modernization efforts have focused on the expansion of the Air Cargo Centre (ACC). The third stage of this project has been presented in the auditorium of the General Services Building of the company CLASA (Centres of Airport Logistics).

Barcelona Airport and CLASA, not just concentrate their efforts on improving the logistics section, but also insist on the development and implementation of actions and initiatives that have positive impact on environment, social awareness and job placement by betting on Culture and Art as active elements in achieving awareness of society. Another of the actions carried out is to work in labour and social reintegration of marginalized groups at risk of exclusion, with the help of companies dedicated to this purpose as Fundación Privada Trinijove dedicated to the people with disabilities and social exclusion, as well as, Obra Social from the Fundació La Caixa through the its program Incorpora for job placement.

In parallel with the presentation of the project for the ACC, it was presented the exhibition "Solo Things" with artworks by the artist Josep Puigmartí. at the Hall of the General Services Building of CLASA. There we can admire the sculptures of the artist who lives and works in Hotel del Arte in Sitges. They have been completely made with recycled materials. The exhibition also includes several paintings of huge sizes (8 meters) created by the multifaceted artist.

Attending the event we found the President of AENA, Juan Ignacio Lema, the General Director of CLASA, José Jorge del Castillo, CLASA representatives in Barcelona, Joan Ferrandiz, the Director of the Airport of Barcelona, Fernando Echegaray, the Government Sub in Barcelona Montserrat Gacía Llovera and the Secretary of State for Transport, Isaias Táboas, who was in charge of presenting the project to the media. All of them were able to admire the work by Puigmartí, they could greet and congratulate him in person and inquire about his creative process.

We congratulate those responsible in Aena and CLASA for the organization of this initiative which shows their commitment to culture and the environment, as well as other collaborating organizations: Private Foundation Trinijove, Obra Social La Caixa Foundation through its program Incorpora, Hotel Estela Barcelona-Art Hotel and Studio Puigmartí.

First Exhibition of the Honorary Artists from the Real Círculo Artístico of Barcelona - Sitges 2011

Closer to hold 130 years of existence of the Real Circulo Artistico of Barcelona, it would take too long to enumerate all the great artists who have been members of the institution or those that weren’t but have been invited to hold exhibitions at the different centres that along its history the entity has had in the city, in fact, this is thoroughly explained in the book "First Approach to 125 years of history" by Maria Isabel Marin.

All the artists who are part of this exhibition that we are on to open now, are members of the Circle; they are our honorary members, some of them since many years ago, and others belong to more recent generations; artists with an important career, with renowned prestige and each one with his own personality and style, they are among the best of their time. They have managed to transmit their emotions through their works and, undoubtedly, they give prestige to the world of art in our country.

Also included in the exhibit we find the already deceased artists: Jesús Casaus, Jordi Mercadé, Josep Ma. Morató Aragonés, Alberto Muñoz and Joan Abelló, who also served as President of the association. And we wanted them to be part of the exhibition because this idea emerged some years ago with the desire and hope to one day make an exhibition with them. So they were promised, and somehow, as far as I’m concerned, I am very pleased to at last fulfill this commitment on behalf of the Circle. I would, also, like to make clear that this would not have been possible without the cooperation and estimable willingness of the owners of the "Art Hotel" in Sitges, sensitive people and art lovers who have achieved, with their dedication and effort, to become an artistic reference in Sitges, offering their magnificent space to, finally, gather together our dear and esteemed "members of honour", who are for the Circle a pride and satisfaction, apart from a rich heritage.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the Circle has invited Josep Puigmartí to exhibit one of his works, who besides being a member of the Institution, is the artist who does all his work in the "Art Hotel", where he has been living for years and where he has his studio, giving this magnificent place a singular original fact that testifies the feeling that those responsible for the "Art Hotel" have for art and for artists.

With regard to the artist's paintings, emphasizes the collection of "Pearls of the Big Bang," large-scale works (5 x 2 meters) and his series "Alien Fashion" unreal character in both cases have been created from non-premeditated strokes and gestures with surrealistic automatisms that as a result a work with great energy and strongly supported in the use of color. As for his role as a sculptor, Puigmartí offers to visitors his vision, in this case more dadaist that surreal, characters created from very diverse objects from which the artist has set out and equipped with new reading, assembled in an as "premeditated accidental" and based on his boundless and unlimited creativity and freedom to express it.

Beyond being an important artist of the second half of the twentieth century is truly committed to the work of cooperating in the social and culture through his painting and sculpture. In his hands, any object is integrated in a harmonious environment in which he shows us his idea of a better world, where characters appear in attitudes that evoke the love between people. In this exhibition, cans, paper, cardboard, tires, cans, aerosols and old furniture become living, breathing sculptures that convey the way you view the world from its creator.

His works do not claim the cruelty of life, but the humanistic vision loss and reunion against the chaos of everyday life. They are creations that are designed for future enjoyment. The artist, through his own experience and feelings alluded, in a metaphorical sense of peace, awareness, integration, job placement, culture and tolerance in an increasingly globalized world and most in need of a unifying set here as the love of nature and our home, planet Earth.

We recall that a good part of the artist's creations can be admired at the Art Hotel in Sitges, where he has his studio and residence, as well as in the museum that bears his name in the French town of Bourg-Madame, l'Espace d 'Art Contemporain Puigmartí.

CHILDREN FROM GIRONA WILL PAINT UMBRELLAS FOR PEACE | SCHOOL DAY FOR NON-VIOLENCE

The Party of Umbrellas for Peace in Girona

Over 3,000 children from Girona will participate in the party "Umbrellas for Peace" on Friday 11^th February at the “Parc del Migdia” at 11 AM. The Parc del Migdia will host thousands of students from Girona to celebrate the festivity that concludes the different activities of Umbrellas for Peace within the framework of the School Day for Non-Violence and Peace (January 30^th).

The day will begin with the parade of about 3,000 children from schools of Girona, handling their umbrellas, in the Parc of Migdia to conclude the activities undertaken in the project "Umbrellas for Peace". All the schools will join to open all the umbrellas in the final party where a small ceremony with a musical performance will take place. This activity, which is jointly organized by the City Council of Girona and the Coordinator of NGO for Solidarity, is involving more than 4500 children from 14 schools: Annexa, Bosc de la Pabordia, Cassià Costal, Font de l’Abella, Dr Masmitjà, Joan Bruguera, Dalmau Carles, Mare de Déu del Mont, Maristes, Migdia, Montjuïc, Pla, Sta. Eugènia i Verd, closely collaborating with the teachers of each school and with the students participation. These recent weeks, the schools have been working on the culture of peace through workshops and by developing their umbrellas, which show pictures and messages of peace.

About Umbrellas for Peace:

Umbrellas for Peace is a global art project and there are several cities around the world, year after year, celebrating this day. The activity is aimed at all kindergartens and elementary schools in the city of Girona (P3 to 6). The work has been conceived from two different views: the artistic creation in terms of design and decoration of umbrellas, and educational values in solidarity, as a previous work for spreading the message of the culture of peace.

Exhibition "I Have a Dream" - Tribute to Martin Luther King

After the great success in the United States, this exhibition comes to Andorra.

This traveling exhibition shows the works by referential artists such as: Josep Puigmarti, Andreu Alfaro, Enric Ansesa, Arranz-Bravo, Louise Bourgeois, Xavier Bru de Sala, Xavier Corberó, Josep Cuni, Suso de Toro, Mohamed ElBaradei, Luis Feito, Susan George, Luis Gordillo, Richard Hamilton, Kcho, Menchu Lamas, Anton Lamazares, Francisco Leiro, Robert Llimós, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Isabel Muñoz, Perico Pastor, Carlos Pazos, etc.

This is an exhibition where artists from the fields of arts, literature and poetry have come together to honour Martin Luther King. We recall that the initiative came from the Sitges City Hall, as an exhibition travelling worldwide.

ART AND GASTRONOMY AT "CAN TASTET" - From Sitges to Sant Feliu de Codines (Barcelone)

Painting and sculpture are clear examples of the classical disciplines of art. However, the word art has certain connotations that make us think that other specialties which are not considered to be art, they might be so. Such is the case of gastronomy and oenology. Does anyone doubt that both synthesize many artistic concepts and certain difficulty? Surely not.

When we mix art and gastronomy, the result is highly satisfying to the spirit and ... for the palate.
.
Certainly there are many businesses that seek to link these "sciences", with better or worse results, but the fact of finding a restaurant born from and for art is not so common.

.
Josep Puigmartí and Josep Ma. Cornellas have joined efforts to search for that purpose. Puigmartí has brought his painting master skills and Cornellas, sculptor in essence and multifaceted character in practice, gives us samples of his artistic ability, his entrepreneurial versatility and his decisive willpower that only few people can afford.
.
Both have decorated the Restaurant Can Tastet which will be opening this coming Friday 5th November in the town of Sant Feliu de Codines. Puigmartí’s boundless creativity is very evident in the paintings which decorate the walls, amazing characters, and most especially the large painting of 5 meters with his well-known Alien fashion (now renamed as "Big Bang Pearls").

All the space is artistic. Cornellas presents it as a big art installation, from the entrance to the halls, playing well with his sculptures and his imagination. It should be noted that Cornellas is one of Puigmartí’s friends and from Hotel Estela, where he held an exhibition to raise awareness on his spectacular sculptural universe a few years ago.

But we are not talking about an art gallery, but a restaurant, so gastronomy plays a fundamental role. In Cornellas's words, "we do not try to impress anyone, but to share moments in good company", the cuisine does not have a defined specialty, we could use the topic of the international cuisine, or the classic "tapas", but it is correct to say that this is CUISINE TO BE SHARED.

Jerica welcomed the artist and peace activist, Matt Lamb, on an afternoon when the population from Ato Palancia joined the rest of the world as a reflection of unity, harmony and peace.

The genuine artist was received by Mr. Amadeo Edo, mayor of the town, and his city council. They attended the musical "Oil for Lamb”, superbly directed and performed by the artist Felix Amador and his "bailaores" (dancers).

.
There were, also, important representatives of Valencia, who were awarded a replica of the Tower of Jerica, like the designer Francis Montesinos, honorary ambassador of Umbrellas for Peace Foundation in Spain, Mrs. Maria Lopez, President of the Foundation Alió and a long list of personalities from the world of Art, Culture, Music, Literature, etc.

The event finished singing the hymn of Lamb Umbrellas for Peace by all attendees.

Matt Lamb begins with this act, several events scheduled throughout the community: Exhibitions, conferences, meetings with cultural personalities and, of course, workshops to paint umbrellas.

On Monday September 20th, Mrs. Sheila Lamb, President of Lamb Studios, has been in the parade of Montesinos in the Madrid Fashion Week with Mrs. Maria Lopez, President of Fundation Jorge Alió from Alicante. Both received an umbrella painted by the famous designer, to honour the work of the two foundations and in gratitude for the support of the Foundation Aixec from Valencia. On the 24th, this foundation will host Matt Lamb and Montesinos sharing an action-apinting at its facilities.

On September 21st Josep Puigmarti, in his role as host on behalf of all Spanish artists and Juan Ripollés representing artists from Valencia, will meet Matt Lamb to accompany him in all the scheduled events. Alongside with them will be Mr. Felix Bentz, European Ambassador for Peace Umbrellas, and the Ambassador in Spain, Mrs. Lola Mesado.

There will be a press conference at the Foundation Alió, followed by a workshop for blind people to be led by Matt Lamb and Mr. Jorge Alió. Finally, at 20:00 pm, there will be a benefit dinner for the two foundations, with a show, with the collaboration of the artists who have already participated in the other events:

The Lamb Umbrellas for Peace Foundation and its Ambassador in Spain, Ms. Lola Mesado, organize this group exhibition with the presence of the artist Josep Puigmarti as host to represent Spain in the visit of Matt Lamb to our country.

Together with the artist from Sitges, who lives and works in the Art Hotel, we find works by:

- Martigodi, Responsible for the management of the creative workshops of the Umbrellas for Peace in Spain.

- Franchi, Designer and official draughtsman for Matt Lamb in Spain. He has been the creator of the CD cover of the Anthem of Umbrellas for Peace.

- Raul Cruz, Director of Communications of the foundation.

- David Trujillo, Representative of artistic relations of Matt Lamb Foundation and Fundación Jorge Alió.

- Julio Escribano, Official Photographer for Matt Lamb Umbrellas for Peace in Spain.

- Francis Montesinos, Honorary Ambassador.

Each one of them will exhibit a painting and Julio Escribano presents a collection of photographs entitled “Por un nunca jamás” (For never and ever) which pays tribute to all victims of terrorism. Among the images there are some that were taken in the "0 zone" in New York after the attack of the Twin Towers of September 11^th and some from the Atocha attack in Madrid on March 11^th.

This will, undoubtedly, be a very emotional evening, to which will also contribute Ms. Conxita Bentz who will play, as a perfect final, several musical pieces for piano as her particular tribute to people affected by Parkinson's disease.

Another event to take place will be the delivery of several Umbrellas to Ms. Lola Mesado: Josep Puigmarti will paint two umbrellas, one representing the Ave Maria Foundation from Sitges, and one on behalf of Hotel Estela Barcelona. The artists participating in the exhibition will paint an umbrella in group. The Lamb Umbrellas for Peace Ambassador, Mrs. Lola Mesado, will donate them to the appropriate persons for this cause.

It is expected the attendance of personalities from arts and politics from our country, to support this initiative which aims to educate the world about the need to find Peace for all peoples that make up our beloved Earth.

Puigmarti present in the Exhibition "Aires Creativos" (Creative Winds) at The Real Circulo Artistico of Barcelona - August 2010

The group “Espejo de Alicante” presents its next exhibition, entitled "Creative Winds", to be held from 5th to 25th August at the Reial Cercle Artistic de Barcelona. Opening on Thursday 5th at 8:00 pm.

Here’s the press release from the curator of the exhibition, Lola Mesado:

"Dear friends "Creative Winds" sails into the city of Barcelona, growing with ten artists who have joined us. This time we exhibit at The Real Circulo Artistic de Barcelona, which is an institution dedicated to art located in Barcelona. It was founded in 1881 and awarded the title of Royal Circle of Art by the King Alfonso XIII in 1916. Its headquarters is at the Pignatelli Palace, at one end of Portal del Angel.

On the ground floor of the building there’s a permanent exhibition of a collection by Salvador Dali. In the temporary exhibition gallery, exhibitions of other artists are held, including Joan Abelló, Matt Lamb, always promoting artists from around the world.

It is an honour to exhibit in the Royal Circle as curator, cultural institution to which I belong and I want you to know.

In this cultural encounter we honour the umbrellas of peace that we will see in September in the Valencian community with the presence of Matt Lamb. We will inform you in detail about this event further on.

We can confirm that the artistic activities of solidarity will be, also, held in JÉRICA-ALFARA DE LA BARONÍA- CHILXES- ELCHE- ALICANTE and VALENCIA.

AIR, PUIGMARTI’S NEW SCULPTURE, DELIVERED BY AENA AS TROPHY OF THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2010

The artist Josep Puigmarti has created the sculpture "Air" – belonging to his famous series “Alien Fashion"- commissioned by Aena (the company managing the airports in Spain) to be delivered as commemorative trophy to the company with better environmental performance this year 2010.

Josep Puigmarti, beyond being a referential artist of the second half of the XXth century, is genuinely committed to work together in the awareness of social and cultural development through his painting and sculpture. From his studio in Sitges at Hotel Estela Barcelona, we cannot help but stand out as a source of pride to have a complete and versatile artist as Puigmarti, demonstrating day after day his true commitment to the environment and concern for nature and our home, the planet Earth.

Culture plays a fundamental role as an active ingredient in the education of present and future generations, and Art, especially, is able to transmit those values in a direct and didactic way, but also rebellious, transgressive and activist.

As part of the Environment Week events, the Madrid-Barajas Airport celebrated the World Environment Day, an initiative promoted by the United Nations Organization to draw the attention of society on the need to preserve the environment.

The top ten results of companies were presented and awarded a diploma and a commemorative trophy to the company with the best environmental performance in terms of implementation of improvements for the prevention of pollution, which was awarded to BOMBARDIER TRANSPORTATION. The trophy, designed by the sculptor Josep Puigmarti, was sponsored by the company AVIATION CLH, SA, winner of the first edition of this competition and was recently delivered to the winner.

Located in the Place de Catalogne in the heart of the Pyrenean town of Bourg-Madame, the Center for Contemporary Art Puigmarti, is an artistic space where take place exhibitions by famous artists, such as Josep M ª Subirachs or Salvador Dalí, becoming, this way, a dynamic point of reference for the whole region of Cerdanya.

Since the inauguration of the Contemporary Art Center Puigmarti, the Pyrenean village of Bourg-Madame has hosted various activities of cultural and artistic nature: a meeting of action-painting with children, the visit of famous artists like Lorenzo Quinn and Mercedes Lasarte, the visit of the art critic Josep M. Cadena, interviews with several media, etc.

During the year 2010 interesting exhibitions have been scheduled where we will be able to appreciate the works of Lorenzo Quinn, one of the most international sculptors at the moment, as well as the new exhibition of master Josep Puigmarti with his faces and characters of fiction, and with the novelty that the Catalan genius, who lives in Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges, presents his latest collection of polychrome sculptures, a series dedicated to his well-known "Alien Fashion" that now, surprisingly, acquire three dimensions.

Lorenzo Quinn is a sculptor with a wide trajectory and many prizes in international competitions. His vehicle of expression are the hands, through which he reflects a whole world of sensations with a big load of symbolism and expressiveness, grazing, at times, conceptualism.

The technical basis of Lorenzo is very solid. The sculptor supports all his sculptures with texts in which he develops the idea that is reflected in his works, thus presenting a work very comprehensive and well reasoned.

In this exhibition, we will see several types of sculptures, ranging from the famous resins belonging to the "Exclusive Collection" to original works in bronze as spectacular as "The Kiss", with 1.70 m of height. Lorenzo's work moves in lyrical softness parameters, though not lacking forcefulness in his message.

From here our congratulations to the City of the small border town of Cerdanya, for their motivation and interest in offering visitors artistic quality.

MATTERHORN: THE ENIGMATIC MOUNTAIN FROM SWITZERLAND SEEN BY PUIGMARTI

Josep Puigmarti has a unique ability to surprise and after his painting dedicated to the six cups of F.C. Barcelona, he is now giving us a visual wonder called "Matterhorn" as a homage to one of the most mythical summits not only from the Alps, but from the whole world, performing a tribute to mountaineering, trekking and anything related to nature. Switzerland is holding throughout the 2010 the International Year of hiking, opening its doors to mountain tourism and the possibility of touring the country on foot through dreamy landscapes. Josep Puigmarti was present at the Circulo de Bellas Artes from Madrid presenting his artwork dedicated to the Matterhorn, with the managers of Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges (Barcelona) where Puigmarti lives and creates. Francesc and Xavier Castellvi supported the artist in the presentation of his first painting dedicated to a mountain.

At the event, the journalist and writer Victor Riverola, presented his mountain guide dedicated to Zermatt and a good part of the Valais. This book is the first work on hiking and mountain tourism in Switzerland published in Castilian (co-written with his wife Jekaterina Nikitina). The managers of the magazines Altaïr and Desnivel gave a lecture too, as well as the representatives arrived from Switzerland to attend the event. The President of the Group Desnivel, Dario Rodriguez, performed a tribute to Air Zermatt, the airline that is carrying out breathtaking helicopter rescues in the Himalayas these days. The event was introduced by the Director of Switzerland Tourism in Spain and Portugal, Mr. Gilles Dind.

It is surprising that Puigmarti’s creativity and passion for nature remains intact today, showing that his concept of art is deeply rooted in his being. From his headquarters in Sitges, Puigmarti is continuously travelling to Bourg-Madame (French Pyrenees) where he has a permanent exhibition located among the mountains. The sea and the mountains are part of his life and that passion was evident on Tuesday morning at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and at the Desnivel Bookshop in the afternoon. In the event (above image) there were present Mr. Urs Zenhäusern (Master of Arts in Management) President of Valais Tourism and Mirjam Bruder, sales manager for Zermatt Tourism.

ART THERAPY AT ESCAAN SCHOOL WITH PUIGMARTI - SITGES

The pupils from INTERNATIONAL ESCAAN SCHOOL had the opportunity to exploit their artistic creativity by an art activity that consisted in painting canvases in a group.

The activity has been conducted by the great international artist Josep Puigmarti.

The principle underlying this activity is to encourage students to express their feelings and emotions in a creative plastic way, using artistic expression to help build confidence, self esteem, and learning.

The most important feature for this activity is to put aside fears, and make out our emotions and feelings, sometimes rejected or blocked by our consciousness. This is an ideal way to relax and a very natural way to solve any problems. No matter the talent or ability you have, the most important thing is knowing how to listen to the "inner voice" and drift through artistic creation.

After finishing the painting, Puigmarti carefully examines the work: Colours, shapes, symbols ... and the result is a work of art created in a group, very important to teach values such as relationships and teamwork.

Puigmarti is one of the most prominent icons of the Catalan art avant-garde from the second half of the twentieth century. He is an artist who creates in a gestural manner, without prior sketchings, showing great spontaneity in all his works. Nowadays, he lives and works at Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel in Sitges, where many of his artworks can be admired.

Puigmarti has created this large-format original painting commemorating the qualifications obtained by FC Barcelona in the year 2009. In the artwork a character is showing signs of celebration, accompanied by the silhouette of the six cups won. At the bottom of the canvas, we find a number 6 created with the typical gestures of the artist. A work reminiscent of those successes to continue to remain in our memories and in our retina.

Throughout his life, he has moved Josep Puigmarti bring his enthusiasm for the club's colors to all the territories of the world where he has been presenting his painting, with long stays in a large number of countries: France, USA, Sweden, Italy , Japan, China, Germany, Denmark and many others over 70 years. In 1992, the year of the European Cup and the goal of Ronald Koeman, Puigmartí created a work of 200 x 130, entitled "The Soci 333,333". This large painting is in the Museum of Barça.

The artist Josep Puigmarti opened last Wednesday the exhibition "Sustainability, culture, diversity, and integration", a collection of sculptures made from different recycling materials at the Rivas Center Mall, in Madrid.

The exhibition was organized by the Foundation Trinijove, who works in the training and labor insertion of groups with special difficulties.

The Economic Area of the Municipality of Rivas collaborates in the campaign of revitalizing shopping centres.

Our society is still trying to find, with varying degrees of success, how to consistently bring our system of production while respecting the environment. Much of the efforts of companies are dedicated to pursuing efficient management of the wastes they generate, as an indispensable step to better living in our world. This new model of effective management is becoming more widespread, with special emphasis on developing new ideas to enable social partners to be more effective in our relationship with the environment, enhancing our position as accomplices and contributors to environmental protection, to restore a beautiful Earth for future generations through innovative environmental solutions.

This environmental commitment required can only be achieved through solidarity actions of social integration, aimed at collective awareness in everything that refers to ecological sustainability and respect. Josep Puigmarti, beyond being an important artist of the second half of the twentieth century, is truly committed to the labour of cooperating in the social and cultural awareness through his painting and his sculpture. In his constant search for beauty, beverage cans, plastics and other waste objects are converted into Art. In his hands, any object is endowed with a new reading and integrated in a harmonious environment in which he shows us his idea of a better world, where characters appear in attitudes that evoke the love between people.

As a fruit of his creativity, the Catalan genius has designed the containers that we can find in several Spanish airports, where users deposit aluminum beverage cans and tins, thereby contributing to the recycling of these metals. It is important to remind that aluminum is the most quoted packaging material in the recovery market and its recycling provides many environmental and economic benefits. .
Through his creative and spontaneous gesture, Puigmartí, shows characters from different races holding hands, a butterfly whose wings represent two faces that are merged in a kiss that symbolizes the union. His works do not claim particular cruelty of life, but the loss of humanist vision and reunion against the chaos of everyday life. These are creations designed for colective enjoyment. The artist, through his own experience and feelings metaphorically refers to peace, sensitiveness, integration, job insertion, culture and tolerance in an increasingly globalized world that needs a unifying element set here as the love for nature and our home, the planet Earth.

The exhibition entitled "Obsessions of an artist" was inaugurated on Thursday, 24th September at 20:00 h. with works by Josep Puigmarti at Art al Set Gallery of Andorra. The presentation was done by the prestigious historian and art critic Francesc Miralles, an expert on the work of Puigmartí and author of several books about the artist. The exhibition contains a selection of over twenty paintings on canvas newly created. Moreover, as a result of its continued evolution and as a tireless researcher, Puigmarti is now presenting a new sculptural series inspired in his pictorial series “Alien Fashion”, those beings placed between reality and imagination. The artist captures these colorful figures using a new technique to take them to the third dimension.

Multifaceted, spectacular and cosmopolitan character, who is able to transform his obsessions in artistic expression and to metabolize all his rich experiences across the brushes.

The vocation of "globetrotter" that marked Puigmarti's personality in his youth and his generous nature, have ensured that part of his work is scattered all around the four continents, although it has been at his 77 years, after establishing in the Art Hotel in Sitges, when the artist has experienced his most fertile stage, debugging and purging his technique without losing one iota of force.

Alien Fashion, Heads, Faces, Profiles: series with a high degree of consistency in its development while they offer some features that lead to the limit some connotations already targeted over the years and others that appear almost for the first time. Undoubtedly, what produces a more immediate effect is the fact that these figures and heads are made with a few strokes, whether they are smaller works as if they have remarkable proportions. In these evocative works automatism is reflected by a gesture that impacts because of the safety with which the line has been set. On numerous occasions, one stroke determines the composition, then adding other equally rapid strokes that concrete areas of the body of the character.

Josep Puigmartí does not have a preconceived philosophy to paint and to choose his topics, but he has a long and deep experience, a long and deep historical knowledge: especially of women, at all latitudes and in all circumstances. Puigmartí does not talk about sex to us, but about passions. And he speaks about them with an essential acrimony that doesn’t belong to a superficial winner but to an alchemist of feelings..

Exhibition "I have a dream in New York" - A Homage to Martin Luther King

Josep Puigmarti present in the exhibition “I have a dream” which is taking place in New York as a homage to Martin Luther King.

From January 21st to March 8th 2009, The Gabarron Foundation of New York presents the exhibition "I have a dream", in collaboration with the City Hall of Sitges, to honour Martin Luther King on the 80th anniversary of his birth, through Art.

The exhibition shows the original works of over a hundred artists and intellectuals from around the world, a proposal whose organizers have identified as "full of visions, different techniques and styles to serve a single purpose: to update Martin Luther King’s message".

Over 70 artists from 5 continents are participating in this proposal where the common denominator is “that dream". Dr. King had a dream more than 45 years ago and this exhibition presents the display by the artists of that dream. The exhibition is complemented by a myriad of relevant letters of writers, thinkers and scientists who have presented their "dream".

Among others, these are the artists that have made possible to fulfill this dream: Andreu Alfaro, Enric Ansesa, Eduard Arranz Bravo, Louise Bourgeois, Lluis Cera, Miguel Condé, Xavier Corbero, Luis Feito, Cristobal Gabarrón, Juan Genovés, Luis Gordillo, Josep Grau-Garriga, Richard Hamilton, Laura Iniesta, Menchu Lamas, Anton Lamazares, Matt Lamb, Lluis Lleó, Robert Llimós, Eva Lootz, Waltraud Maczassek, Santi Moix, Perico Pastor, Antón Patiño, Carlos Pazos, Josep Puigmarti, Manolo Quejido, Josep M. The mayor of Sitges, Jordi Baijet said that "it is a coincidence that the exhibition comes now, one day after the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first black president in U.S. history, which gives "an added value" to the event.

After New York, the exhibition will move to other states in the U.S. as Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Illinois, to return to Spain and start its journey through different cities of the country and travel in 2011 to European capitals such as Paris and Berlin.

The project could be summarized as an attempt to raise mutual awareness between U.S. and Spanish societies through the various cultural manifestations in both countries, as well as to recover the collective identity to advance in the present and future knowledge throughout the twenty-first century.

Once again, the union of the two territories has, once more become real in this wonderful exhibition through the efforts of the City of Sitges, the curator of the exhibition and Sitges’ town councillor for Culture, Gabi Serrano and The Gabarron Foundation in New York.

The program Electric Cabaret of ICAT FM - Catalunya Radio, run by Claudi Puchades, contains a number of interesting interviews related to the cultural scene.

Claudi Puchades: My innate facility for the drawing could have done me a real artist, but circumstances have turned me into a career in the media, as director of cultural programs, television and radio, with artistic content. I am a hybrid of artist, art critic, commentator and interviewer of artists and, as they say, I was the only voice in many moments of disinterest by the world they represent. And now that the voice on ICAT fm has been turned into image, I am even closer to their world, which is mine, and yours if you wish so.

INTERVIEW WITH JOSEP PUIGMARTI by CLAUDI PUCHADES - 13/11/2008

Spectacular and surprising was the presence of the artist Josep Puigmarti in my art section last Thursday at the "Electric Cabaret" of ICAT fm, with his 76 years of painter and sculptor heir of the pop art and surrealism and a man committed to his present time as a fantastic representative of the art of recycling.

Josep Puigmarti is now exhibiting at the "hall" of general services buildings in the centre of air cargo from Barcelona airport, where you can contemplate until the end of January 2009 his “things” (sculptures), his particular pictorial "aliens" and his sculptures made from recycled items, such as on "Aliens discover Miniblack," created from glass bottles in the from the brand Miniblack by Freixenet.

Frothy bubbles of Catalan cava are what last Thursday showed the slender, thin figure of Josep Puigmarti, dressed in immaculate white, touched with a high crown of the same colour and with eyes painted black intense which gave him the look of a pharaoh.

Josep said that whenever he leaves the Hotel Estela in Sitges (Barcelona), where he lives since 1995 after a life of true globetrotter, clothing and with his particularly makeup honouring his "philosophy of the eye," which proclaims the vital need to look at and be seen consistently and with intensity.

I suggest you do the route's El Prat airport - Hotel Estela Sitges Barcelona, following Josep Puigmarti’s trail from the "hall" of general services buildings in the centre of air cargo at the airport to a hotel which, because of him, of other creators and of the general atmosphere is known as the Art Hotel.

“Encounters with Present Art” offers an exhibition of paintings and sculpture that not only seeks to exalt the plastic but contribute to a great social work as the one made by Vicente Ferrer Foundation, which is devoted to economic and social development of the poorest communities in India.

The artists involved are over seventy. Their names, backed by the works they perform, are fully representative of our art. Many of them have international influence and jointly affirm the creative force that exists between us.

This Encounter includes works by Tàpies, Barceló, Antonio Lopez, Eduardo Naranjo, Feito, Canogar, Equipo Cronica, Guerrero, Genoves, Hernandez Pijuan, Rafols Casamada, Josep Puigmarti, Esteban Vicente among the painters and Chillida, Oteiza, Subirachs, Andreu Alfaro, Hernandez Pellisa, Juan Muñoz and Jaume Plensa representing to the sculptors. Names of artists who have their imprint and that serve as encouragement to those of the younger generation.

From November 13th to January 23rd 2009 will be possible to visit it at such central and accessible facilities as it is the Museum of Contemporary Art Conde Duque, c / Conde Duque 9-11, Madrid.

It is our fervent hope that the exhibition is much visited and has the success that its cultural purposes deserve, shared with the help that can be provided to the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
